Hong Dou Tang

I know I've posted about this Peanut Soup Stall in Maxwell FC before but I'll just do another one since I tried the other two items available.

I reaaaaaally only wanted to buy the red bean soup. Really. But! I saw the makansutra awards going to it's peanut soup and tau suan. So I changed my mind at the last minute (literally) and ordered all three with some tang yuan (glutinous rice balls) to go.

Seriously speaking? I still think the red bean soup rocks. It has brown rice in it which gives a very unique taste. Well, you can read on my previous post about it by clicking on here.

And I reaaaaaaally don't see what the fuss is about the other two items. Uhm, the peanut soup is very watered down and you can only taste the peanuts faintly so don't try it if you are the kind who likes thiiiiiick, riiiiiiiich, gooooooey peanut butter-style peanut soup. Oh wait, or is that peanut paste?

The tau suan is also quite normal.

Yeah... don't know what else to say about it.

But I'll still go down for my red bean soup! Oooh yummy yummy.

hey i happen to be a BIG red bean fan! i love red bean buns and soup! i've never tried red bean soup with brown rice! looks like i must visit maxwell FC & kovan FC when i go back to singapore. what a shame, i have never been to either after living in singapore for 18 years!

oh you know the ang koo kueh store in thomson? i heard they are quite cocky. like you MUST order before hand to get hold of it. like if u just walk into the store they are quite 'dao'. is it true?

haha nope, their not. In fact, the people were quite nice when I only ordered 1 or 2 ang ku kuehs!

Not sure about YD's experience with the Thomson ang ku kueh, but I just did a walk-in as well and they were actually quite pleasant.

When I queried that if they only had two flavors left (what I saw at the front), she replied that they had some fresh mungbean ones coming out and took them from the back for me despite knowing I was only interested in buying only two of each (for initial sampling).

So all in all, it was quite a rather good experience. Maybe first timer's luck? How was your experience YD?

Haha, pretty good I would say. The old man who got me the kueh the first time round were friendly and explained what were the other kuehs available (on Sundays) while the second time round it was an old lady who was also friendly and all smiles

red bean soup does sound quite unique.
So, anyway, my kids are asking me why am I writing to someone who's called "Yummie Dummie"? And I wanted to ask you if you mind if I listed your foodie blog on my blog under a heading like, "Blogs I visit to torture myself"?
cheers .. Jas
